Dear Clemson:
The Governor's Executive Budget was released today at 1:30 p.m. A preliminary review of the Governor's recommendations shows the following items that specifically affect Clemson:
Education and General
— An approximate $4.2 million General Fund reduction
— A tuition cap tied to the higher education price index
— A reduction of $15 million to the Endowed Chairs Program
— A $1.5 million increase to the Campbell Graduate Engineering Center at CU-ICAR
— Funding of a 3% pay increase for state employees, including higher education
Public Service Activities
— An approximate $8.6 million General Fund reduction
It is important to remember that the Governor's recommendation is only the first step in a lengthy process of developing a state budget. We will have many opportunities to present our own budget recommendations and priorities.
We believe that higher education and PSA are vital to the future of South Carolina, its ability to build a knowledge-based economy, and our quality of life. We will work hard to make a strong case for support with members of the General Assembly as the budget process continues.
Sincerely,
James F. Barker, FAIA
President
