Prospective Faculty
Collaboration

Collaboration within departments:

The mission of the Center for Collaborative Research and Creative Activities is to facilitate and support the development of interdisciplinary projects (research, education and outreach). The center has identified four goals that are aligned with HEHD collaborative areas and Clemson University goals and emphasis areas. These goals serve as a guide for the center’s strategic planning and annual assessment.

Collaboration among departments:

"Synergy" is defined as "combined or cooperative action," which is why the founders of Clemson's new online journal chose to call their publication Synergy: The Journal of Undergraduate Research in Engineering and Science. Synergy represents a collaborative effort between the Center for Advanced Engineering Fibers and Films and Clemson's English department. The journal is made possible with grants from the National Science Foundation and the Clemson University Innovation Fund.

Collaboration among universities:

Clemson University has been awarded one of the two summer study abroad program grants (worth $40,000) and one international faculty collaboration grant ($60,000) for 2006. The winning summer study abroad proposal is entitled “Tropical Ecology and Systemics,” proposed by Dr. Kalan Ickes of Clemson and Dr. Brian Wiegmann of North Carolina State. The program is based in Dominica. The faculty collaboration grant is entitled “Water Resource Research in Major Watersheds in Southeast Asia,” by Dr. Stephen Klaine of Clemson and Dr. Michael Perdue of Georgia Tech. The program will take place in southeastern China and northern Vietnam.

Collaboration with Technical Colleges:

Clemson University has received a grant from AdvanceSC to assess the benefits of offering a Clemson degree at any one of South Carolina’s 16 technical colleges.

“A program like this would make Clemson University more accessible to more people,” said Debra Jackson, assistant to the president and associate provost. The $50,000 grant will help the University research the feasibility of offering a degree program off campus. The study was conducted during the 2005-06 academic year and included input from business and industry.
