The evaluation of academic credits from other institutions rests with the Clemson faculty in each subject area. Final approval for use of these credits in your degree program is determined by your major adviser.
Please review your credit evaluation forms as you read these instructions. A sample of a completed evaluation form is included to use as a guide. If you are still enrolled in classes, your current course work will be added upon receipt of an official transcript. You will also need to have this additional course work evaluated. Grade reports or faxed copies of transcripts may be used for advising purposes only. No course work may be evaluated using grade reports or faxed copies of transcripts. The Office of Admissions must receive final transcripts from each college you have attended before you can enroll in classes.
If you have received a “Satisfctory” or “Passing” grade for prior course work, you will need to have an official statement from the registrar’s office of the institution you attended stating that the S or P grade is equivalent to a C or better to receive credit for the course work. Clemson University accepts courses for transfer only if earned with a grade of C or better. Also, in order to receive credit for any course from which you may have exempted at another college, you will need to complete an “Exemption/Waiver” form with the Office of Admissions. A course exemption or waiver must appear on your college transcript.

How do I complete the transfer evaluation form?
Step 1. Get your course work evaluated by a Clemson departmental adviser. (See list of Advisors.)
Courses that have transferred to Clemson are maintained in a computer database known as the Transfer Credit Equivalency List (TCEL). If a course from your institution has previously been evaluated, you will see a Clemson equivalent already listed under “CU Equivalent” and TCEL listed under “Evaluator’s Initials” on the evaluation form. If you need to have a course evaluated for a particular subject, there will not be an equivalent listed for that course. You must show a description for these courses to a faculty departmental adviser. If the adviser determines there is a Clemson equivalency, the adviser will initial his or her approval and award Clemson credit for your course. If the faculty adviser determines the course will not transfer, it will be marked “NCT” (no credit transferable).
Step 2. See your Clemson major adviser (listed on your credit evaluation form).
Once all of your course work has been evaluated by departmental advisers for any Clemson equivalencies, you will then see your major adviser. Your adviser will complete the “Use in Curriculum” section and initial if your courses are approved for transfer into your major. You may see any of the following four abbreviations used under the “Use in Curriculum” section:
- R (Required). This includes all humanities/social science requirements, major area requirements and courses required for a minor.
- E (Elective). This includes all free electives that are required for your major.
- EE (Excess Elective). You have taken more electives than you need for your major.
- NCT (No Credit Transferable). You have taken a class that will not transfer to the University, or it will not transfer toward graduation requirements in your major.
You will not receive credit for your course work until all final, official transcripts and completed evaluation forms have been received in the Office of Admissions. Please be certain that your adviser signs your evaluation forms before turning them in to the Office of Admissions. If at any time during the evaluation process your major adviser needs to substitute a course, a substitution form must also be completed and submitted for student records purposes. Remember that use of course work in your curriculum will change if you change your major.
