The average price was $1,535.10, according to Larry Olson, Clemson Extension beef specialist and test coordinator. "The average was down a bit from last year's $1,800, but that just reflects the current low prices in the beef industry," he said. "Buyers just got some good bargains, because the quality of bulls was outstanding." All but one of the bulls were purchased by South Carolina beef producers. One went to a Georgia buyer. Croxton Farms Inc. of Kershaw paid the top price in the sale -- $2,700 for a Black Angus from Black Grove Angus in Newberry. The top 11 selling bulls, averaging $2,363.64, were all Angus. Olson said that in 14 Edisto Forage Bull Test sales, breeders have sold 641 bulls for $1,387,875, an average price of $2,131.91. END
