DATE: 10/10/96 CONTACT: Dr. Jim Palmer, Clemson sustainable agriculture coordinator, (864) 656-3519 WRITER: Bill Baker, (864) 656-3875 Sustainable Agriculture Conference Scheduled for November 8-10 at Winthrop University CLEMSON -- Several Clemson Extension faculty members will participate in the 11th Annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference planned for Nov. 8-10 at Winthrop University in Rock Hill. The theme for this year's meeting is "Agriculture, Community, and Economy: Weaving a Sustainable Future." The primary sponsoring group for this conference is the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association a non-profit organization of farmers, gardeners, businesses and consumers in North and South Carolina that encourages healthier and more sustainable farming and gardening methods. Clemson University is also one of several additional sponsors. Instructors and topics at the conference include Walker Miller, Clemson Extension plant pathologist and physiologist, on fruit for your backyard, Clemson Extension horticulturist David Bradshaw on organic production of vegetables, Clemson Extension agent Henry Nunnery on beekeeping and Clemson Extension agronomist Robert Lippert on getting to know your soil. The fee for the full conference, which includes the Friday banquet, Saturday lunch, dinner and entertainment, Sunday snack and all workshops, is $80 for CFSA members, $110 for non-members and $61 for students. Transportation to an optional dairy farm tour is $12. Overnight accommodations are not included in the registration fee. For registration information, call (919) 968-1030.
