DATE: 10/25/96 CONTACT: Dr. Nancy Porter, (864) 656-5718 WRITER: Bill Baker, (864) 656-3875 Farm Women's Forum Registration Underway CLEMSON -- Registration is underway for the 1997 South Carolina Farm Women's Forum, which will be held Feb. 11 and 12 at the Ramada Inn in Clemson. "The goal of the conference is to provide an opportunity for farm women to become more informed and responsive to current issues in agriculture," said Nancy Porter, Clemson Extension family resource management specialist. The theme of this year's forum is "Agriculture -- The Common Thread." Topics will include beef purchasing, handling and preparation; food safety issues; and beef cattle research. Forum participants will also have the opportunity to hear a panel discussion titled "Women Partners in Farming and Ranching," focusing on women heavily involved in agriculture and agribusiness. Also included in the forum are side trips through the Historic Pendleton District and tours through The South Carolina Botanical Garden located on the Clemson University campus; Liberty Hall, an historic inn; and the Pendleton District Agricultural Museum. The forum is sponsored by Women Involved in Farm Economy, the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service and the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. Registration fee is $10 per person and forms are due by Jan. 15. After that date the fee is $15. Forms can be obtained at your county's Clemson Extension office. END
