"The meeting gives producers and those interested in getting into aquaculture an opportunity to discuss the finer points of production," said Jack Whetstone, Clemson Extension aquaculture specialist and meeting organizer. Experts from Clemson University will present the latest in research findings and give updates on various commercial aquaculture species, legislation relating to the industry and regulations pertaining to handling and processing. A Frogmore stew will be served at 1 p.m., followed by tours of commercial clam, shrimp, tilapia, redfish and bait minnow farms, plus the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Saltwater Finfish Hatchery. Registration is $35 by Oct. 27. That includes membership in the S.C. Aquaculture Association. Registration at the door will be $50.
