Cason is the 1998 recipient of the Epsilon Sigma Phi State Early Career Award. The award was presented recently at the annual conference awards luncheon in Columbia. Epsilon Sigma Phi is the National Honorary Extension Fraternity, the professional organization for the Cooperative Extension Service. Cason is the program coordinator for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), a statewide nutrition education program for limited resource audiences. She has provided leadership to this successful Extension program since she came to South Carolina in 1989. Each year EFNEP reaches over 4,000 adults, and 7,000 youth throughout the state. Cason has a Ph.D. in nutrition from Virginia Tech, a master's degree from Texas Woman's University, and a bachelor's degree from Penn State. She is a registered dietitian with expertise in maternal and infant nutrition, nutrition for young children, and nutrition for the elderly. END
