A series of demonstrations and talks will center around a discussion of South Carolina's new animal waste regulations, as well as help for problems such as keeping manure out of streams and preventing odors and flies. "Even though horses are increasing their numbers in suburban settings, there are many techniques available to keep the manure from having a negative impact," said Larry Hudson, a Clemson Extension horse specialist. "Of course, housekeeping is important, but farm layout can also be used to decrease the impact of manure and surface water." The field day will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no fee. The event is sponsored by the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with the Greenville County Recreational Commission and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
