Smathers Elected to National Board

     CLEMSON -- Diane Smathers, Clemson Extension assistant
director for family and youth development, has been elected to
the Board on Human Sciences of the National Association of State
Universities and Land Grant Colleges.
     In January, Smathers will begin a three-year term on the
nine-member board. Board members work as advocates for home
economics and related disciplines in higher education and  to
generate funding for programs crucial to family and community
well-being.
     Smathers holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in home economics from
the University of Kentucky and an Ed.D. in higher education from
the University of Georgia.
