Forty-six top herd sire prospects will be up for bids beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Clemson University's Edisto Research and Education Center at Blackville, according to Larry Olson, Clemson Extension beef specialist and test manager. The sale will feature 29 Angus, 8 Charolais, 5 Simmental, 3 Gelbvieh and 1 Brangus. Each has met strict standards for weight gain, frame size and breeding soundness. Sixteen bulls qualified for the "South Carolina Elite" brand, which means they met superior standards. Olson said that both purebred breeders and commercial cow-calf operators will find bulls in this group that will produce calves with good frame size, weighing more than 600 pounds at seven to eight months of age. Edisto REC is located three miles west of Blackville on U.S. Highway 78 in Barnwell County. END
