Bands will perform each Thursday evening from 6:30 until 8 on the grounds near the center's administration building, according to John W. Parris, director of programs at Sandhill REC. "The concert series is an excellent opportunity for area residents to have a family picnic and visit the educational exhibits and demonstration areas at Sandhill REC prior to the concerts," he said. They include the Children's Garden, the Conservation Station, the Cottage Garden, the Backyard Wildlife Habitat Project and the Home Composting Demonstration Garden. The Fall Concert Series' primary sponsor is BB&T. "BB&T and the other sponsors are pleased to bring these outdoor concerts in a family-oriented, fun-filled atmosphere at Sandhill REC," said Max Crowe, the bank's Midlands Region president. Appearing in concert will be: Tokyo Joe, Sept. 9; the Columbia First Baptist Church Orchestra, Sept. 16; Second Nature, Sept. 23; Whatever, Sept. 30; Endless Summer, Oct. 7; and the Fort Jackson 282nd Army Band, Oct. 14.
