Mickey, (803) 775-4580 WRITER: Bill Baker, (864) 656-3875 Clemson Sponsors Marketing Workshop for Farmers CLEMSON -- Farmers who would like to develop a written marketing plan for their farms are invited to a Jan. 4-7 workshop at Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort. The workshop is titled "Executive Marketing: Developing a Marketing Plan." It is sponsored by Clemson University. During the seminar, participants will receive training in commodity market analysis and the mechanics of developing their plan. The seminar will provide over 20 hours of hands-on instruction, including problem-solving approaches to case studies. The faculty will consist of leading professors from Clemson University and Virginia Polynetic Institute & State University. Agricultural lenders, commodity brokers and experts in government programs are also included on the faculty and involved in the development of the program. Wayne Purcell will teach the technical analysis section and Dave Kenyon will teach the fundamental analysis and market strategy sections. Both are award-winning marketing professors at VPI and SU. Dr. Purcell's research emphasis includes price risk management strategies for grains and livestock. Dr. Kenyon's research concentrations include futures and cash market price relationships and supply/demand impacts in agricultural markets. Wayne Myers, of Kennedy & Coe, LLC, teaches the government program section. He works with producers in over 20 states to unravel the complexities of the farm program. Tuition is $275 per student ($350 after December 1). The fee covers all instructional materials, three nights lodging at the Litchfield Resort Hotel, the reception/oyster roast, breakfast, and lunch. For the remaining meals, the Pawley's Island area boasts a variety of dining opportunities. Enrollment is limited to 42 students.
