DATE: 8/24/99 WRITER: Bill Baker, (864) 656-3875 Clemson Extension Sponsors Drought Briefings at Local Farms CLEMSON -- The effect of this year's drought on South Carolina farmers will be the topic of discussion at media briefings sponsored by Clemson Extension at two farms on Aug. 25 and 26. On Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 10 a.m., a group of Clemson Extension specialists and agents will gather at the Davis Brothers' Farm in Batesburg. To get to the Davis Brothers' Farm, travel Highway 1 from Columbia/Lexington to Batesburg-Leesville. Shealy's Bar-B-Que will be on the left. Continue on Highway 1, go through 2 lights (Hardee's will be on the left at the second light). Continue on Highway 1. Twin-City Motors will be on the right. Continue on until you come to Bethlehem Road on the left. Take a left onto Bethlehem Road. Go approximately 1 to 1.5 miles on Bethlehem Road. The road to the farm will be on the right. On Thursday, Aug. 26, Extension specialists and agents will attend a media briefing at the farm of Charles Edens in Sumter County. Extension personnel and media representatives will meet at 10 a.m. at Charles Edens' office in Dalzell. From there, they will travel to Edens' farm. To get to Edens' office from Columbia, take Highway 378 east toward Sumter. Turn left on Hwy 521 North toward Camden. At the next fork, bear right toward Dalzell. Go three to four miles until you come to Edens' office on your right in downtown Dalzell. END
