J. Hildreth Award for national leadership in public policy education. The award was presented at the National Public Policy Conference in St. Paul, Minn. on Sept. 20. Named in honor of longtime Farm Foundation managing director Jim Hildreth, the award was presented on behalf of the Foundation and the National Public Policy Education Committee. Harris is an Extension agricultural economist and a professor of agricultural and applied economics at Clemson. He was cited for his educational programs, leadership and scholarship among a broad array of policy issues including farm and food policy, dairy policy, international trade policy, animal waste policy, and public issues education. "Hal Harris has made many outstanding contributions to South Carolina agriculture and the sector nationally through his public policy extension and research programs," said Clemson Extension Director Dan Smith. Harris currently serves as president of the Clemson University Extension Senate, president-elect of the Southern Agricultural Economics Association, and vice chairman of the Council on Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics. He was awarded the Clemson Alumni Association Distinguished Public Service Award in 1995. END
