William F. Schulz will speak at Self Auditorium in the Strom Thurmond Institute on the Clemson University campus. Admission is free, and the lecture is open to the public. Schulz will speak on "Terror, Torment and Tyranny: The State of Human Rights Today." Schulz was appointed director of Amnesty International USA in 1994. He has received the Harry S. Truman Award for International Leadership, and the American Humanist Association chose him "Humanist of the Year" in 2000. He has delivered lectures at Yale Political Union, Oxford University, McGill, Columbia, Penn and Northwestern. He is a frequent speaker at the World Affairs Council meetings, corporate groups and international settings. His new book is entitled "In Our Own Best Interest: How Defending Human Rights Benefits Us All." The Calhoun Honors College and Strom Thurmond Institute are lecture sponsors. The Clemson University Bookstore will sponsor a book signing after the presentation.
