Butterflies, goldfinches, frogs and dragonflies are just a few of the benefits of diversifying your landscape and gardening for wildlife. Discover the ecological keys to making your garden wildlife friendly from Staff Biologist Lisa Wagner. She'll help you transform your garden into a wildlife haven by focusing on landscape design, plant selection and cultural practices. 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. Hanson Learning Center. $15. 4 First Friday Nature Walk. Join naturalist, David Bradshaw, for an informative walk through the Garden. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate dress. Walks generally last one to two hours. Meet at the Red Caboose. 7 a.m. Free. 5 Harvesting Our Heritage: Weave! With Connie Lippert. Fashion a loom from cardboard and weave a "mug rug". Participants will weave with their own naturally dyed yarns. Simple tapestry techniques will be explored. Hanson Learning Center. 10 a.m. - noon $20, includes materials. Class size limited to 20. Registration deadline, Sept. 23. 7,14,21,28 Creative Conflict Resolutions: a series with Terry Pizzuto. Conflict is inevitable and natural. This series is designed for those desiring to learn more about approaching conflict creatively in their lives, including family, friends and co-workers. Choose from Noon - 1 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Hayden Conference Center. $40 per series. Each series consists of four weekly, one-hour sessions. Advanced registration required. Must be post-marked by Sept. 30 8 Fall Perennial Gardening Fall is a wonderful time to enjoy perennial gardening, with cooler temperatures and an abundance of flowers. It's also a good time to evaluate and update your perennial beds and add new plants. Staff Botanist Lisa Wagner will focus on fall favorites in this hands-on workshop. You'll also learn about how to keep your plants healthy through the winter. 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. Hanson Nature Learning Center $10. 10 Tenth Anniversary Celebration: Bluegrass and BBQ! Celebrate the Garden's 10th anniversary of being designated the state's botanical garden since 1992. Kick up your heals with local bluegrass music from the Grass Roots Revue. Ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m., music starts at 7 p.m. BBQ catered by Just More BBQ of Pendleton. BBQ proceeds benefits the Garden. $10/plates for non-members; $8/plates for Friends members. Nancy Basket, a Cherokee from Walhalla, is the featured artist of the month. Her work is on display in the Fran Hanson Discovery Center and on sale at the Carriage House Gift Shop.
