Clemson Extension packaging 
seminars to be held Nov. 12-15  

     CLEMSON -- Clemson Extension will offer two seminars for
individuals in the packaging industry Nov. 12-15 at Clemson University.
     Packaging Fundamentals will be Nov. 12 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. The Nov. 14 class will end at noon. Managing Packaging Development
will be held Nov. 14-15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Nov. 14 class
will start at 1 p.m.
     Packaging Fundamentals will cover the history of packaging,
packaging functions, describe packaging materials and forms, and
explain how packaging is developed and tested. Seminar participants
will gain hands-on experience in Clemson's state-of-the-art package
testing laboratory. Presenters will also cover packaging and the
environment, and packaging laws and regulations.
     The seminar is intended for participants with limited or no
experience in the packaging area.
     Managing Packaging Development will show how product and
packaging are developed concurrently, explain the phases of packaging
development, and include how to use standardized and integrated
packaging development processes.
     The course is designed to provide the participant with the skills
to develop packages and packaging systems, which meet the requirements
of the product and the distribution and use environments.
     Participants may register for one or both seminars. The cost for
Packaging Fundamentals is $850 and for Managing Packaging Development,
$510. Both seminars are $1,360.
     The seminars will be taught by Scott Whiteside, assistant
professor and Extension associate; Jorge Marcondes, professor and
Cryovac chair; and Robert Testin, professor emeritus.

     Registration fees include all course materials, refreshments and
box lunches. A certificate will be issued to all participants.
