DATE: 8/16/04 WRITER: Diane Palmer, (864) 656-4741 NEWS BRIEF FROM CLEMSON UNIVERSITY ’S PSA MEDIA RELATIONS Clemson Extension agent honored by S.C. Beekeepers Association CLEMSON -- Danny Howard of Greenville has been named the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Agent of the Year by the South Carolina Beekeepers Association. Each year the association recognizes an agent for his dedication and support of the beekeepers in the state. Howard was nominated by the Piedmont Beekeepers Association. He received a plaque from the state association's president Clyde McCall of Seneca during the summer meeting on July 16. “Danny works tirelessly to assist our association, to keep it strong and active,” said Charlie Holden, president of the Greenville area group. “He serves as executive secretary and composes our monthly newsletter. He helps to decide what our meetings should be for the whole year so that we provide the best information to our members. He then contacts any out of town speakers and makes sure that their needs are taken care of.” Howard is a certified beekeeper in the South Carolina Master Beekeeper Program and maintains hives at his house. “Danny always goes the extra mile in support of the South Carolina beekeeping industry,” said Mike Hood, Clemson Extension bee specialist and coordinator for the state beekeepers meeting. “I discovered this to be true many years ago when he worked in the Walterboro area and he supported the Walterboro County and the Low Country beekeepers associations.” END
