Free Second Tuesday: 2 - 3:30 p.m. Hayden Conference Center. Garden Fitness Walks - Wednesdays Take a brisk walk on our loop road through the arboretum. Wear walking shoes and get ready for a healthy break in your day. Bring your bag lunch and relax at the picnic area by the stream or plan on a light lunch at the Carriage House afterward. Box lunches available if ordered in advance at 864-656-6132. Free Wednesdays: Noon - 1 p.m., April 7 - June 30 Location: Meet at the Discovery Center parking area. Spring Plant Sale - Apr. 16 & 17 Spring is the time to find the best selection of native plants, perennials, ornamental shrubs and grasses, trees and more. Master Gardeners, S.C. Botanical Garden staff and volunteers will be on hand along with local garden club representatives to help you choose the best plants for your garden. Sprouting Wings will also have a tent with indoor plants and herbs grown by the children who participate in this after-school program. Get your shopping list together. Third Saturday FRIENDS of the Garden Day - Apr. 17 Friends of the Garden and Geology Museum will receive free admission to the Campbell Geology Museum and enjoy a free cup of coffee at the Carriage House Cafe. The Geology Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Cafe will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also, check out the special sale at the Garden Gift Shop. Painter/artist Shirley Brodoff will be at the Discovery Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to demonstrate her work while on exhibit during the months of March and April. Spring Fossil Adventure - Apr. 24 Join Geology Museum curators for a weekend of ancient discovery in Lowcountry. Try your hand at collecting 40 million year old shark teeth, shells and other fossils in a limestone quarry. Children ages 10-17 are welcome with a responsible adult. GARDEN YOGA CLASSES: Beginning Yoga - Wednesdays - Apr. 7 - May 5 Beginning Yoga is a course for new yoga students or those who desire a review in basic practice. The class mission is to prepare the yoga student for a regular Flow Yoga practice. This is an introduction to vinyasa or 'flow yoga' designed to increase strength and flexibility. Breathing techniques will also be practiced. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat to practice on. Class limited to 18 students. $60 for the six-week series or $10 per class by advanced registration. Wednesdays: April 7-May 5, 5:45 - 7 p.m. Location: S.C. Botanical Garden Retreat Center. Flow Yoga - Ongoing Flow Yoga with Renee Gahan is a course ideal for the beginner, intermediate and experienced yoga students. The class focus is on vinyasa or 'flow yoga', in addition to the ashtanga primary series of poses designed to increase strength and flexibility. Ashtanga Yoga Workshop - Apr. 17 Two Intensives: The Sun Salutations and The Standing Sequence Todd Roderick is recognized as one of the top Ashtanga instructors in the southeast. He studied with his primary instructor, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India for 14 months. Roderick has also studied under senior practitioner, Tim Miller. He has practiced for 8 years and has instructed for 6 years. He is committed to the preservation of Ashtanga Yoga in its traditional form and to helping students move to a higher level of development through the practice. Roderick's workshops will enrich the experienced student's practice as well as add more to the foundation of the beginner. Bring your mat and a towel. $35 each or $70 for both.
