First Friday Nature Walk – Oct. 1
Meet at the red caboose for an informative walk with naturalist
and Clemson University Professor David Bradshaw. Wear comfortable shoes and
appropriate dress. Walks generally last between one and two hours.
Fee: Free

Location: Meet at the Red Caboose Parking Area.
Hatha Yoga: Saturday Mornings - 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 - Ongoing
Join Anita Nunnelley for Hatha Yoga, a more gentle approach to movement.
Nunnelley received her teacher training and experience from The Yoga and Ayurveda
Center in Anniston , AL . She is also a Reiki and Ayurvedic practitioner. For
specific questions or concerns about the course content, email Anita at gardenofzen@yahoo.com.
Bring a yoga mat and towel.
Fee: $10 per session

Flow Yoga - Tuesdays -5, 12, 19, 26 - through Nov. 23
Add a Tuesday class to your week through November with Renee Gahan. The
class focus is on vinyasa or 'flow yoga' in addition to the Ashtanga primary
series of poses designed to increase strength and flexibility. Wear comfortable
clothes and bring a yoga mat to practice on. Class size is limited to
12 students.

Garden Discovery Walks – Oct. 6 – Dec. 1
Take a lunch-time break in the Garden. Spend 30 to 45 minutes enjoying
the Garden's woodland trails, with an emphasis on seasonal nature observation. Wear
shoes suitable for uneven terrain.
Fee: Free
Wednesdays, 12:10-1:45 p.m.

Flow Yoga - Thursdays - 7, 14, 21, 28 - Ongoing
Flow Yoga with Renee Gahan is a course ideal for beginner, intermediate
and experienced yoga students. The class focus is on vinyasa or 'flow yoga'

induce relaxation and clarity of mind. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a

Third Annual Harvest Concert Series - October 7, 14, 21, 28
The S.C. Botanical Garden welcomes Upcountry bluegrass, old-time
and gospel musicians to the Reflection Garden at the Fran Hanson Discovery
Center for an evening of foot-stomping good times. The Carriage House Café will
be open with homemade food and drinks during the show.
Oct. 7: Grass Roots Revue
Oct. 14: Curtis Blackwell and the Dixie Bluegrass Boys
Oct. 21: Drover's Old-time Medicine Show
Oct. 28: Fiddlin' Festival
Fee: $3 per person, ages 4 and under free.
Thursdays, 6 - 7:30 p.m. for all concerts except Oct. 28, which will run from
6 to 9 p.m.

Piedmont Gardening Basics - 7, 14, 21 – 3-week course
Fall is an excellent time to add new perennials and shrubs,
establish new beds, and invigorates older plantings. Join S.C.
Botanical Garden ’s Academic Program Director Lisa Wagner for
a three-part workshop, which includes a behind-the-scenes preview of
the Garden's fall plant sale. Topics include designing for successful
landscapes, working with Piedmont soils, and choosing the right plants.

Print out a sample version of the plant sale list at the Garden’s

These lists are sorted by sun requirements, from full and partial shade to
full sun.
Oct. 8 - FRIENDS of the Garden Preview Plant Sale , 2-6:30 p.m.
Oct. 9 – General Public Plant Sale , 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
New FRIENDS may join at the Oct. 8 preview sale for a $25 tax deductible
donation.

Cool-Season Container Gardening – Oct. 13
Bring a favorite container or window box and create a fresh display
for fall and winter in this hands-on-program with S.C. Botanical Garden’s
Academic Program Director Lisa Wagner. Ajuga selections, Sedum,
and hardy greens are excellent ways to perk up a winter porch or entryway,
and a refreshing counterpoint to pansies and kale. The Garden will provide
plants, potting mix and some different ideas for fall and winter plantings.
Fee: $30, includes potting media and plants

Earth Science Day at the Campbell Geology Museum – Oct.

Learn to use a compass on the Orienteering Course at 1:30 p.m. on
the Campbell Geology Museum front porch. Children will make a fossil cast
to take home. Ongoing activities include fossil preparation demonstration
and rock/mineral/fossil identification. The Geology Museum is the place
to explore a fascinating collection of minerals with interesting origins, gems
from all over the world, and fossils of ancient creatures. Participants may
even walk through the glowing fluorescent mineral room and get a close-up look
at the Southeast's only saber-toothed cat skeleton, Smilodon!
Admission: Free.

Lunar Eclipse Night Hike – Oct. 27
October's full moon (the Hunter's Moon) will experience a total eclipse
Oct. 27-28, with the moon starting to enter Earth's shadow shortly after 9
p.m. Experience the sights, sounds, and sensations of a moonlight night
on an early evening walk and stay for the eclipse, weather permitting. Wear
suitable walking shoes and appropriate clothing.
Fee: $9 per family or group (maximum of 5 per group)

the Fran Hanson Discovery Center will
be closed for Home Football Games - October 16, 23, 30.
The Garden is located on the Clemson University campus at
the intersection of Highway 76 and Silas Pearman Blvd. It encompasses 295
acres of gardens, streams and woodlands, and is open year-round from sunrise
to sunset, free of charge.
