Master Gardener workshop
scheduled for Sept. 24
COLUMBIA – A Clemson Extension
Master Gardener workshop entitled, “Gardening for a Better World” is
scheduled for Sept. 24 at Riverbanks Garden in Columbia.
“The one-day workshop will have speakers
and thought-provoking topics that address current, cutting edge and future trends
and challenges facing Master Gardeners,” said Bob Polomski, committee chair
and state master gardener coordinator.
The program will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4
p.m.
“We will provide lunch and the opportunity
to learn from top-notch specialists on a variety of topics,” said Polomski.
Topics that will be addressed, include invasive
plants, innovative weed management strategies, fire ants, and new ways of growing
medicinal plants and vegetables.
"Even during the lunch hour, we have a learning
opportunity for participants," said Polomski. "A internationally renowned
plantsman and
horticulturist, John Elsley from Klehm's Song Sparrow Perennial Farm, will
talk about 'Hot, New, Knee-buckling Ornamentals for Southern Gardens.'"

A registration fee of $40 is due before
Aug. 23. This includes lunch,
educational materials, and the opportunity to network with Master Gardeners
from across the state.
