CLEMSON UNIVERSITY ECONOMIST SEES POSITIVE OUTLOOK DURING YOUR DAY RADIO PROGRAM INTERVIEW Forecasting a positive economic future, Bruce Yandle, professor of economics emeritus at Clemson University, will be a guest on Your Day radio on March 1 and again March 8. Host Bob Becker, director of the Strom Thurmond Institute, will interview Yandle on the economic outlook for South Carolina and the nation during the S.C. Focus segment. Your Day airs weekly, Monday through Thursday, from noon to 1 p.m., on the ETV Radio Network. "There's no doubt that the national economy has turned a corner," said Yandle. "The prospect for jobs is coming at a slower pace. The difficulty is in manufacturing and that represents the heart of the South Carolina economy." GARDEN GIFT SHOP MOVES TO FRAN HANSON DISCOVERY CENTER The Garden Gift Shop has recently moved to the Fran Hanson Discovery Center located in the S.C. Botanical Garden. The shop has new garden gift items such as the new gardening book to prepare for spring plantings. Shoppers will receive a 20% discount off any one item through March. Clemson University employees will receive an additional 10% off when showing their ID. A few items are excluded. Call (864) 656-3405 for more information. Hours of operations are: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Remember, the third Saturday is FRIENDS of the Garden Day at the Carriage House Cafe and Campbell Geology Museum. COMPOST WORKSHOP SET FOR MARCH 5 Clemson University's Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Sustainable Agriculture Programs are sponsoring a compost workshop on March 5 at the Madren Conference Center in Seminar Room II. The workshop will start at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. There is no charge. The morning session will include: 1. The soil food web and implications for soil quality and plant disease management. 2. Systems management approach to compost tea production and application. 3. Optimizing compost tea production for different applications. 4. On-farm compost production. Lunch will be on your own. The afternoon session will include: hands-on compost tea making with the growing solutions compost tea brewer, spraying equipment, and compost tea analysis. Jon Nilsson, a soil scientist and president of East Coast Compost in Asheville, N.C., will teach the workshop. Nilsson provides consulting for biological management of soils and crops including golf and sports turf, vineyards and landscape plants. END
