DATE: 8/27/04 CLEMSON – Phil Noble, author of “Beyond the Burning Bus: The Civil Rights Revolution in a Southern Town,” will speak at the Strom Thurmond Institute at Clemson University Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Noble will discuss his experiences as a young Presbyterian minister in Anniston, Ala. during the civil rights movement. Noble brings an insider’s perspective to the 1961 firebombing of a Freedom Riders bus by the Klu Klux Klan as well as black and white leaders working together toward peaceful desegregation. A book signing, hosted by the Clemson University Bookstore, will follow the program. The program is part of the Clemson University Presidential Colloquium.
