Toni Pipkins, a leader in 4-H for 22 years, received the award during a Dec. 10 Clemson Extension meeting. She was recognized for "the contributions she made to thousands of 4-H members, volunteers and donors." "Toni has provided exemplary service to Extension throughout her career," said Deborah Thomason, associate professor, Extension Family and Youth Development Specialist. "Many youths attribute their success in life to the love and dedication she has brought to 4-H." Thomason added that Pipkin's leadership in Orangeburg County 4-H has grown and prospered into a model of 4-H programs in South Carolina. She has inspired donors and volunteers to increase their support for the South Carolina 4-H program. Thanks to this increase, the number of scholarships and awards has risen. Since 1995, Pipkins has secured the three largest gifts for South Carolina 4-H, totaling more than $1 million. Pipkins came to Clemson Extension in 1985. From 1985 to 1994, she built the existing Orangeburg 4-H program. In 1994, Pipkins accepted a position on the State 4-H staff and became program coordinator. Pipkins lives in Orangeburg with her husband Richard. END
