The ServSafe training course for employees will be sponsored by the Clemson Extension Service and televised by satellite from 1 to 6 p.m. each day. Those who complete the course and a final test will receive a certificate. Advance registration is required, and the fee is $25. Participants will receive the ServSafe Employee Guide and a food thermometer. The course is designed for food handlers working in restaurants, schools, grocery stores, day care centers or anywhere food is served. The employee course uses materials developed by the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association, according to Libby Hoyle, Clemson Extension food safety specialist. ServSafe is the industry standard in food safety education. Topics to be covered will include: food safety basics; proper hygiene; purchasing, receiving and storing food; preparing, cooking and serving food; and cleaning and sanitizing.
