The lecture is free and open to the public. A reporter for the Associated Press from 1960 to 2001, Mears observed, processed and wrote critical political coverage that appeared in every American daily newspaper. He received the Pulitzer Prize for national reporting in 1977 for his coverage of the 1976 presidential campaign and election. In his book "Deadlines Past," Mears focuses on the 11 campaigns he covered, how they changed the way American presidents are nominated and elected and how the media told the tale along the way. After the program, Mears will sign copies of his book, "In Deadlines Past: Forty Years of Presidential Campaigning: A Reporters Story." Clemson University Strom Thurmond Institute of Government and Public Affairs and Clemson University Calhoun Honors College sponsor the Calhoun Lecture Series. The Clemson University Bookstore hosts the book signing. END
