Your Day radio schedule for week of Aug. 30

CLEMSON -- The following "Your Day" radio programs from Clemson University Radio Productions are scheduled to air on the South Carolina Educational Radio Network for the week of Aug. 30. The program airs from noon to 1 p.m. , Monday through Thursday. Listeners can call in questions during a "live” show by using the toll-free phone number: 1-888-539-8859.

MONDAY, AUG. 30 – S.C. Focus -- The Trade Deficit and its Impact.  Bob Becker, director of the Strom Thurmond Institute on Government and Public Affairs, talks with Bill Ward , director of the Center for International Trade at Clemson University .

The Arts, I --  Poet Vera Gomez. Glenn Hare talks with a finalist in the 2004 SC Poetry Initiative competition, co-sponsored by the State newspaper. Vera Gomez and novelist Mindy Friddle will take part in a Sept. 13 Reading at the Depot , a series of the Hub City Writers Project held at the Spartanburg Train Depot, 298 Magnolia Street at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The Arts, II -- Writers on the Writing Process.   Spartanburg writers Pat Jobe and Meg Barnhouse of Radio Free Bubba discuss the creative process, their own methods, and those of other writers.

TUESDAY, AUG. 31 -- Palmetto Gardening -- A live call-in segment on lawn and garden issues with host F. Brian Smith, Clemson Extension agent in Charleston County . Call in with your gardening questions toll-free at 888-539-8859. For additional help with gardening topics, visit Clemson Extension’s Home & Garden Information Center .  NOTE: The 2004 Master Gardening Workshop: "Gardening For a Better World," will be held on Sept. 24 at Riverbanks Garden in Columbia .

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 1 -- Food for Thought -- Food Safety Education Month. Libby Hoyle, Clemson Extension food and nutrition specialist in the Clemson University Department of Packaging Sciences, visits BiLo in Clemson to talk with Mark Van Ostenbridge, director of food protection and safety for BiLo.

Pet Talk  -- A live call-in program on pet health care issues.  Glenn Birrenkott of the Clemson University Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, hosts Dr. Bobby Long of Magnolia Veterinary Clinic in Anderson. Out & About -- The Ethics of Stem Cell Research. Peter Kent talks with Kelly Smith, lemon fellow at the Rutland Center for Ethics at Clemson University .

Weatherwise -- Hurricane Season and other Weather Conditions with Clemson Agricultural Meteorologist Dale Linville.

Out & About -- An Evening on Charleston Harbor . Roy Scott takes a dinner cruise of the Charleston Harbor on The Spirit of Carolina .  He speaks with cruise director Tim Bedwell, entertainer David Tyler, and Captain Forrest Urick.

Chef’s Table -- Eggplant Napoleon. Libby Hoyle, Extension food and nutrition specialist in the Clemson University Department of Packaging Sciences, learns a vegetarian dish from Chef John Scoff at the Old Village Post House in Mt. Pleasant.
