Your Day radio schedule for week of Nov. 1

CLEMSON -- The following "Your Day" radio programs from Clemson University Radio Productions are scheduled to air on the South Carolina Educational Radio Network for the week of Nov. 1. The program airs from noon to 1 p.m. , Monday through Thursday. Listeners can call in questions during a "live” show by using the toll-free phone number: 1-888-539-8859.

MONDAY, NOV 1 – S.C. Focus -- “Beyond Choice: Reproductive Freedom in the 21st Century” . Bob Becker, director of the Strom Thurmond Institute on Government and Public Affairs at Clemson University , talks with Chair of the International Planned Parenthood Council Alex Sanger.

Radio Commentary -- Furman University President David Shi considers the accomplishments of Coretta Scott King, widow of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Arts, I -- Catherine Paul of the Clemson University English Department, talks with writer Adam Johnson, a lecturer in creative writing at Stanford University and author of the novel Parasites Like Us and the collection of short stories Emporium , published by Viking Press.

The Arts, II -- A New Art Gallery . Roy Scott visits the new Wells Gallery located at The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island . He speaks with gallery director Magda Murphy and with artist Karen Larsen Turner, whose work can be seen at the 6 th Fine Art Annual, scheduled for Nov. 5-7 at the Wells Gallery in Historic Charleston, and during an open house on Nov. 20-21 at the new Wells Gallery at The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island .

TUESDAY, NOV. 2 -- Palmetto Gardening -- Encore Azaleas. Clemson Extension Horticulturist Bob Polomski visits the S.C. Botanical Garden during a recent tour by members of the International Plant Propagators Society. He speaks with Buddy Lee, a plant breeder from Independence , Louisiana , who created Encore Azaleas. Got Bugs? -- A selection of calls taken off the air following our live call-in segment on insects, spiders and other household pests. Charlotte Holt hosts Eric Benson, Clemson Extension entomologist and Cam Lay, assistant department head of Pesticide Regulation at Clemson University . W EDNESDAY, NOV. 3 -- Food for Thought -- The Blessing of the Vines. Libby Hoyle, Clemson Extension food and nutrition specialist in the Clemson University Department of Packaging Sciences, visits Irvin House Vineyards and talks with Jim and Ann Irvin, owners of this vineyard and winery located on Wadmalaw Island near Charleston.

Pet Talk -- A live call-in program on pet health care issues. Glenn Birrenkott of the Clemson University Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences hosts Dr. Nathan Craddock of Tiger Town Animal Hospital in Clemson. Listeners may call in with questions via the toll-free number: 888-539-8859.

THURSDAY, NOV. 4 -- Focus on the Future -- An Environmentally Responsible Building.  Donna London of the Jim Self Center on the Futuretalks with representatives of Cox and Dinkins, a Columbia-based civil engineering and land-surveying firm about their new 12,000 square foot “green” office building, the first commercial Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building in South Carolina.

The Arts -- Indian Classical Dance.  Anuradha Murali, artistic director of the Mrudani School of Performing Arts in Orangeburg, talks with Craig Stinson, director of the Folklife and Traditional Arts program of the SC Arts Commission, about upcoming East Indian classical dance events scheduled for Nov. 10-12 in Orangeburg and Columbia .  Call Dr. Anuradha Murali at 803-233-1708 for more information.

Out & About, II --One World Week. Sara Diaz talks with attorney and human rights advocate Elizabeth Birch, former director of the Human Rights Campaign, who will speak at Clemson University ’s One World Week on Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in Tillman Auditorium .

Chef’s Table --Creamy Blue Crab Soup. Libby Hoyle, Clemson Extension food and nutrition specialist in the Clemson University Department of Packaging Sciences, visits with Executive Chef Rodney Freidank at Restaurant O in Greenville.
