At Home, Southern Style TV schedule for week of Sept. 12

CLEMSON -- "At Home, Southern Style," a Clemson University TV program, will air on the South Carolina ETV Network for the week of Sept 12. Ann Lee McPhail and Jeff Bennett of the Clemson University Video Production Services, hosts the program each week, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 to 6:45 a.m.

Monday, Sept 12 ­ Beginning a three-day study of hummingbirds, Candace Cummings, Clemson University urban wildlife specialist, visits Ann Lee McPhail’s back yard and gives advice on attracting hummingbirds. Then Clemson Extension Horticulturist David Bradshaw takes a tour of the Heirloom Garden, which is a part of the S.C. Botanical Garden, and looks at velvet beans.

Tuesday, Sept. 13­ Continuing our Hummingbird study, Clemson University Urban Wildlife Specialist Candace Cummings explains how to clean the feeders and mix the sugar water. Then Host Jeff Bennett visits the Palmetto Garden at Brook Green Gardens near Myrtle Beach.

Wednesday, Sept. 14 -Day three of our Hummingbird series -- Host Jeff Bennett and Joey Williamson of the Clemson University Home and Garden Information Center, travel to the S.C. Botanical Garden to look at plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Next Clemson Extension Food and Nutrition Specialist Libby Hoyle and Dotty Ryan, Southeastern Dairy Association, discuss how important milk is in the diet.

Thursday, Sept. 15­ Today is a good food day! Clemson Extension Agent Elizabeth Hill makes salmon cakes and Clemson Extension Agent Rhonda Matthews makes spaghetti salad.

Friday, Sept. 16­ What exactly is the new Food Guide Pyramid? Is it still a pyramid? Beth Kunkel, Clemson University food science and human nutrition professor, explains.Then Clemson Extension Horticulturist David Bradshaw shows how to select a really ripe watermelon.

At Home, Southern Style can also be seen on the South Carolina Channel. For the week of Sept. 12: Clemson University Urban Wildlife Specialist Candace Cummings and Joey Williamson of the Clemson University Home and Garden Information Center, bring a three part hummingbird special and Clemson Extension Agent Rhonda Matthews makes spaghetti salad.
