These are fundamental questions that must be asked and answered before a forester or landowner considers management options. Clemson Extension will be answering these questions and more in a workshop entitled “Forest Products, Measurements and Inventory” May 21 in Lehotsky Auditorium on the Clemson University campus. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Class will begin at 8 a.m. and will run until 5 p.m. Registration cost is $95 postmarked on or before May 2. The cost will be $125 if participants register after May 2. Breaks and catered lunch provided. Enrollment is limited to the first 60. The workshop is designed for landowners who must make operational management decisions on southern pine management. “The course will particularly benefit private landowners who want to take an active role in the management of their forest,” said Erik Flemming, Clemson Extension continuing education coordinator. The workshop will introduce the landowner to the correct methods of using a variety of tools for taking forest measurements on individual trees and for inventory plots. Raw data will be collected, analyzed and transformed into usable information. All required gear and equipment will be provided. Each registrant is encouraged to bring any personal equipment they would like to use to collect data. Transportation to and from the Clemson Experimental Forest will be provided. Each registrant will receive a Biltmore or Cruising stick as part of their registration fee. Dress appropriately as the majority of the day will be spent in the field. The workshop is sponsored by Clemson Extension, Greenville Forestry and Wildlife Society, S.C. Forestry Commission and American Tree Farm System.
