Forestry workshop to be held Jan. 29

NEWBERRY – Clemson Extension and the Newberry County Forestry Association are offering a forestry workshop for forest landowners, managers and anyone interested in forestry.

The Forestry Focus workshop will be Jan. 29 at the Army National Guard Armory in Newberry from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The theme will be “Timber Market Trends and Outlook.”  Presentations will be made by industry professionals on various wood products that are important to the local area. In addition, there will be a short session presenting state and federal incentive programs that are available to landowners.

“Forestry Focus 2005 is an excellent opportunity for landowners to sharpen their knowledge of the timber markets,” said Darren Atkins, Clemson Extension agent in Newberry County .

Representatives from various timber companies, non-profit organizations, government agencies, consulting firms and forestry contractors will be available to speak with landowners about the services they provide.

The Armory is located on General Henderson Rd. , just off S.C. Highway 34 behind the S.C. Forestry Commission District Headquarters.

“Thanks to our sponsors, the cost is only $1 per person, which includes lunch and door prizes,” said Atkins.

For pre-registration or more information, contact the Newberry County Extension Office at (803) 276-1091, your local Clemson Extension office or e-mail Atkins at datkins@clemson.edu.

Foresters will be offered 4.5 CFE credits.
