Flow Yoga – Thursdays – Jan. 6, 13, 20, and 27

Flow Yoga with Renee Gahan is a course ideal for beginner, intermediate and experienced yoga students. The class focus is on vinyasa or ‘flow yoga’ in addition to the Ashtanga primary series of poses designed to increase strength and flexibility. Breathing techniques will also be practiced to reduce stress, induce relaxation and clarity of mind. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat to practice on. Class is limited to 12 students per session. *Please note: yoga classes will resume Jan. 6, 2005 after the holiday break.

Fee: $10 per session

Location: S.C. Botanical Garden Hayden Conference Center.

First Friday Nature Walk – Jan. 7

Meet at the Red Caboose for an informative walk with naturalist and Clemson University Professor David Bradshaw. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate dress. Walks generally last between one and two hours.

Fee: Free

9 a.m.

Location: Red Caboose Parking Area.

Focus: Fiber Art Quilt Exhibit – Jan. 10 – Mar. 31

Focus: Fiber Art is an exhibit of nine regional quilt designers. This colorful exhibit of artistic quilts will be on display at the Discovery Center from Jan. 10 through March 31. Look for workshops and other related events in March.

Daily: Mon. – Sat.: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Sun.: 1 - 5 p.m.

Location: Fran Hanson Discovery Center.

Hands-On Vermicomposting Workshop – Jan. 29
Worm composting or “vermicompostine” is a great way to speed up your composting efforts. In this hands-on workshop, you will investigate the components of a thriving worm bin and learn more about putting these fascinating creatures to work. Includes worms and supplies to start putting worms to work at home in your garden. Complete kits may be ordered during the workshop with the instructor.

Tuition: $20, includes worm bin plans.

Location: Nature Learning Center.

 

Winter Lecture Series – Early Registration Open

The 2005 Winter Lecture Series provides opportunities to expand your knowledge about the world of plants and gardens. Register early, as space is limited for this special garden event. Series runs Saturdays, Feb. 5 – 26. Call (864) 656-3405 for the schedule, prices and to register today.

De-mystifying Plant Health with Meg Williamson.

GARDEN HOURS OF OPERATION:

Discovery Center and Garden Gift Shop Hours: Mon.–Sat., 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m.

Geology Museum Hours: Thurs.-Sat., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. Admission: $3/adults and $2/children 12 and under. Annual passes available.
Please Note Holiday Hours: Discovery Center and Geology Museum will be closed for the holidays Jan. 1 – 3, 2005 .

The Garden is located on the Clemson University campus at the intersection of Highway 76 and Silas Pearman Blvd. It encompasses 295 acres of gardens, streams and woodlands, and is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, free of charge.
