First Friday Nature Walk – June 3
Meet at the Red Caboose for an informative walk with naturalist and Clemson University Professor David Bradshaw. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate dress. Walks generally last between one and two hours.

Fee: Free

7 a.m.

Location: Meets at the Red Caboose Parking Area.

SOLSTICE ART EXHIBIT – Ongoing through August

Enjoy the artwork of featured artists Heather Kline Schaffer and Joshua Schaffer during the months of April through August on display at the Fran Hanson Discovery Center. This Pendleton couple will exhibit their oil paintings and nature photography with images taken from the S.C. Botanical Garden. Workshops are scheduled for May and June. Print the PDF event flyer.

Fee: Free

Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sun. 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Location: Fran Hanson Discovery Center.

Flow Yoga – Thursdays – June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Flow Yoga with Renee Gahan is a course ideal for beginner, intermediate and experienced yoga students. The class focus is on vinyasa or ‘flow yoga’ in addition to the Ashtanga primary series of poses designed to increase strength and flexibility. Breathing techniques will also be practiced to reduce stress, induce relaxation and clarity of mind. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat to practice on. Class is limited to 12 students per session. No class May 19.

Fee: $10 per session

Location: S.C. Botanical Garden Hayden Conference Center.

Digital Photography Workshop: “A Walk with the Eye” – June 11

Join nationally-juried photographer and graphic artist Joshua Schaffer on a natural walk of observation to explore the photographic possibilities in the Garden. Josh will start the program with a retrospective presentation of his own work, an exceptional display of photographic images portraying flora and fauna as well as natural elements discovered in the Garden. Then, using your own digital camera, you’ll experiment with capturing images of your own. Participants will then reviewed share images working collaboratively with the artist to create fine art prints or develop DVD image presentations of their pictures to take home and enjoy. No experience necessary. Josh’s work is currently on exhibit at the Fran Hanson Discovery Center as part of the SCBG Featured Artist program.

Tuition: $75

Saturday, 9 a.m. - Noon (rain date June 18)

Solstice Gathering with the Artists – June 21

Come listen to poetry, harp music, and celebrate Summer Solstice with Heather & Josh Schaffer among their artwork during this mid-exhibit reception celebration. Views from the gallery windows bring the outdoors-in so you can enjoy the peak of the summer season at the S.C. Botanical Garden.

Fee: Free for Friends of the Garden & Geology Museum members

Tuesday, 6 – 8 p.m.

Location: Discovery Center.

Backpack Nature Adventures – Mondays, June 27 July 25 and Tuesdays, June 21 - July 26

Discover plants, animals and insects using binoculars, hand lenses and nature guides with your family. Families can choose to meet at the Shaver Recreation Comlex Nature Trail in Seneca of The South Carolina Botanical Garden’s Hanson Nature Learning Center for this fun outdoor program. Please note: No program on Monday, July 4; Program will be canceled if inclement weather or lightning. Bring your bug repellent, water bottle and wear study shoes. Fee: $7 per family per day (Scholarships available)

Mondays 6/27-7/25, 6 - 7 p.m. at the Shaver Recreation Complex in Seneca

Tuesdays 6/21-7/26, 5:00 – 6 p.m. at the S.C. Botanical Garden Hanson Nature Learning Center.

SPROUTING WINGS: KIDS ONLY! – Thursdays, June 23 – July 28

Space is limited in this six week “Kids Only” summer gardening and nature exploration program! Learn how to grow herbs, veggies and flowers in the “Food for Thought” garden. Play fun games, make cool crafts and discover nature in the garden. Open to rising 4 th, 5 th & 6 th graders only. Fee includes a Sprouting Wings t-shirt, snacks and all materials. Must have own transportation. Scholarships available. For more information contact Amy Dabbs at 656-7340or acraddo@clemson.edu.

Fee: $30 per child for the 6-week program

Thursdays, 9:30 – 11:30 am

Location: Nature Learning Center.

The Garden of Readin’ – Wednesdays, June 27 – July 27

Families with children of all ages are invited to join Sprouting Wings leaders Amy Dabbs and Lisa Petty to explore nature through stories and activities. Each week will feature a different theme and a related activity or craft to help imaginations grow all summer long. Scholarships available. Fee: $7 per family per day

Wednesdays, 10 a.m. – 11:30 am

Location: Nature Learning Center.

No matter what your background or the time you have available, there is a place for you at the SC Botanical Garden. Volunteer opportunities are available in grounds maintenance and gardening, education programs, special events, and visitor services. Discovery Center & Garden Gift Shop Hours: Mon.–Sat., 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. Geology Museum Hours: Thurs.-Sat., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. Admission: $3/adults and $2/children 12 and under. Annual passes available. Carriage House Café & Tea Room now open weekends – groups please call ahead at 864-656-3405.

The Garden is located on the Clemson University campus at the intersection of Highway 76 and Perimeter Road. It encompasses 295 acres of gardens, streams and woodlands, and is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, free of charge.
