The state ranks highest in breast and cervical cancer. “Golfing for a Cure”, an educational fundraiser was established in 1999 as a means to help underserved women and their families get early cancer screening services. This year’s tournament is scheduled to start at noon on April 15 at Cobb’s Glenn Country Club in Anderson. There will be a meet and greet on April 14 at 7 p.m. to kick off the tournament. Cost is $200 for a team of four or $60 for an individual player. Golf tournament funds are used in outreach efforts through Tri-County Community Action Teams, a non-profit coalition under the auspice of Clemson Extension Serviceto educate communities on the prevention of cancer and to support early diagnosis through screening. The community health initiative is targeted to impact the health of women across the state. It has provided monetary support for persons who otherwise would not have the opportunity to access or afford cancer screening services. “Education is the key to improving survival rates by teaching lifestyle and behavior changes,” said Marian Chapman, Clemson Extension program assistant and coordinator of the event. The tournament is supported by numerous local businesses. For more information or to register, contact Chapman at (864) 226-1581 ext. 111, or by email at mcphmn@clemson.edu. END
