S.C. Botanical Garden events set for week of Jan. 31

CLEMSON – Due to the icy weather, the Hands-On Vermicomposting Workshop that was to be held on Jan. 29, has been re-scheduled for Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon . Tuition is $20, which includes worm bin plans. The class will meet at the Garden’s Nature Learning Center .

Focus: Fiber Art Quilt Exhibit begins Feb. 1. The exhibits of eight regional quilt designers will be on display at the Garden’s Discovery Center through the end of  March.

There are still seats available for the Winter Lecture Series that begins Feb. 5. Call (864) 656-3405 for cost and more information. The classes will be held at the Hayden Conference Center at the Garden.

Bavarian Artist Nils-Udo will be visiting Clemson for the month of February to create a nature-based sculpture at the Garden. He will present a slide presentation of his artwork on Feb. 2 at Lee Hall Auditorium on the Clemson University campus at 7 p.m. The event is free. Udo’s artwork has appeared in Europe, Japan , India and North America .

Flow Yoga will begin on Feb. 3 from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. at the cost of $10 per session. It will be held at the Hayden Conference Center . To register, call (864) 656-3405. Flow Yoga is a course ideal for the beginner, intermediate and experienced yoga student. The sessions will also be held Feb. 10, 17 and 24. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a yoga mat to practice on.

First Friday’s Nature Walk with Naturalist and Clemson Extension Horticulturist David Bradshaw will begin at 9 a.m. on Feb. 4 at the red caboose parking area. The walk is free and will last between one and two hours. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

GARDEN HOURS OF OPERATION:
Discovery Center & Garden Gift Shop Hours: Mon.-Sat., 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m.
Geology Museum Hours: Thurs.-Sat., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. Admission: $3/adults and $2/children 12 and under. Annual passes available.

The garden is located on the Clemson University campus at the intersection of Highway 76 and Silas Pearman Blvd. It encompasses 295 acres of gardens, streams and woodlands, and is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, free of charge.
