1. New Fees for Clemson University’s Ag Service Lab Beginning July 1, Clemson University’s Ag Service Lab will increase fees for some of its services due to increased laboratory operating, supplies, and equipment costs. Below is a list of the services that will increase: Standard soil test – From $5 to $6 Standard minerals plant tissue analysis – From $5 to $6 Orchard leaf plant tissue analysis – From $13 to $15 Nitrogen plant tissue analysis – From 5 to $6 Standard minerals feed and forage analysis – From 5 to $6 Crude protein feed and forage analysis – From $5 to $6 ADFN-Bound protein feed and forage analysis – From $5 to $6 pH feed and forage analysis - $3 Standard irrigation water analysis – From $3 to $6 Special irrigation water analysis – From $15 to $20 Special animal waste analysis – From $25 to $30 Costs will remain the same for all other services.
2. Clemson Extension offers 4-H Super Summer Day Camp and Camp activities CHESTER COUNTY – Clemson Extension is offering 4-H Super Summer Day Camp and Camping Activities for youth ages 6 to 19. The camps are as follows: 1. Progressive Farmer 4-H Farm Safety Camp - June 21, Sigmon Farm, River Road, Union County, 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. For ages 5-19 and parents; children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Theme is Animal Safety, with workshops including riding horse safety, pet safety, animal handling, equipment safety and more. Campers will see a draft horse demonstration as well. Cost is $2.00. Deadline to register is June 1. 2. Sewing Day Camp - May 30- June 2, Edgemoor ARP Church, Edgemoor. For rising 4 th – 6 th graders. Campers will make a small quilted throw (blanket). Cost- $15 per child; limit 10 campers. Additional children $13. Time: 9 a.m – 12 noon. 3. Cooking and Crafts Day Camp - June 1-3, the Market Building, Chester. For ages 9-13. Campers will make a variety of crafts and learn to cook. Cost- $15 per child; limit 15 campers. Additional children $13. Time: 9 a.m. to 12 noon. 4. 4-H ElectroTech Day Camp - July 5-6, DSN Building. For ages 9-14, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Campers will learn about electricity and agriculture, and will make several projects, including an incubator (that could be used for a science project). Cost- $15 per child; limit 16 campers. Additional children $13. 5. 4H20 Pontoon Day Camp- July 20-22, Great Falls. For ages 9-14. Campers will learn about water quality, aquatic life, insects, and take a trip on a pontoon boat. Cost- $15 per child, limit 15 campers. Additional children $13. Photo contest too!!! Time: 9 a.m. to 12 noon. 6. Food, Fun, Fitness Day Camp- July 27-29, Fort Lawn Community Center. For ages 9-14. Campers will hike and explore, plus make nutritious snacks and other foods. Cost- $15 per child, limit 15 campers. Additional children $13. Time: 9 a.m. – 12 noon. 7. 4-H Box Pony Day Camp- June 28-30, The Market Building, 116 Columbia St., Chester. Come learn about horses without having to own a horse! Youth will make their own “pony” from a box and will learn about feeding, grooming, and caring for a horse. A mock horse show will be held the last day. Cost: $15 per child, additional children $13; limit 10 campers. Time: 9 a.m. – 12 noon. 8. Shooting Sports- 4-H Shooting Sports Day Camp-June 11, The Market Building, 116 Columbia St. Chester. Youth ages 10-19 will learn basics of rifle marksmanship and gun safety. Will use 4-H Shooting Equipment. Parents welcome to attend, but must send in your name with registration. Cost: $3 per child, limit 15 campers. Time: 1 – 5 p.m. 9. 4-H 5-A-Day Foods Contest- June 3, Union ARP Church, Richburg. Youth ages 5-19 can enter a dish made with fruit or vegetables. Recipes should be healthy. Each youth presents the dish to the judges, and gives a short talk about it. Complete instructions provided. Prizes awarded for 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd, for ages 5-8, 9-11, 12-13, 14-19, and all participants will receive a goodie bag. Contest is free. 10. 4-H Breads Workshop – July 19, Lowrys Baptist Church, Lowrys. For ages 9 – 19. Cost is $2 per child; limit 10 children. Time: 9 a.m. – 12 noon.
