Flow Yoga – Thursdays, November 3, 10, 17 Tuition: $10 per class Thursdays: 5:45 - 7:15 pm Location: Hayden Conference Center FLORA, FAUNA & CULTURE OF THE SOUTHEAST: an exhibit by Nancy Barton & Nancy Perry Be sure to visit the Discovery Center Gallery this fall to see the beautiful exhibit by these two Upstate artists. Nancy Barton uses photography to capture colorful and enticing images of nature, many of which were taken right here at the S.C. Botanical Garden . Nancy Perry uses a paintbrush with many different mediums to interpret the beauty of nature and landscapes. Workshops will be offered by both artists during the exhibit. Free. Location: Fran Hanson Discovery Center Gallery Hours: Monday - Saturday 10am - 4pm and Sunday 1:00 - 5:00 pm GARDEN & CAMPUS DISCOVERY WALKS - Wednesdays, through November 30 Join Education Director Lisa Wagner for a noon walk in the Garden or on the Clemson University campus. We'll explore different garden areas each week, with potential excursions to other campus sites related to the recently published “The Nature of Clemson: a Field Guide to the Natural History of Clemson University.” We’ll focus on seasonal nature observation in these informal walks. Wear shoes suitable for uneven terrain. Fee: Free Wednesdays, (10/5 - 11/30) noon - 1 pm Location: Meet at the Caboose Parking Area CD RELEASE PARTY & CONCERT - Thursday, November 3 Celebrate the release of the 2004 Harvest Concert Series compilation CD. The 2004 Feature Band, Tugalo Holler, will perform followed by a Jam Session with members of the rest of the bands who played on the CD. Bring your chair and a picnic or grab a bite to eat at the Carriage House Cafe. 2004 Harvest Concert Series features this areas best bluegrass and traditional string musicians: EZ Duzit, Drover's Old Time Medicine Show, Grass Roots Revue, Curtis Blackwell & the Dixie Bluegrass Boys, Tugalo Holler and Steve McGaha & Dean Watson. CD's will be available to purchase at the show. Check out the rest of the 2005 Harvest Concert Series line up. Admission: $5/adults & $2/children 4 and up Thursday, 6:00 - 8:30 pm Location: Fran Hanson Discovery Center BEGINNER KNITTING II - Tuesday Evenings: November 1, 8 & 15 OR Wednesday Mornings: November 2, 9 & 16 Just in time for holiday gift giving! This class is or advanced beginners or those ready for a slightly more challenging project. Get ready to learn some new stitches and basic patterns to create any number of gifts (pillows, hats, scarves, purses, and more). Students provide their own needles and yarn - project choices and a materials list will be sent to all registrants. Register early - class size is limited to 10. Students should sign up for either the Tuesday or Wednesday series. Tuition: $30 for series Tuesdays, 6-8pm or Wednesdays, 10am - noon Location: Discovery Center FOUNDATION YOGA - Tuesdays, November 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 Foundation Yoga class is an excellent class for students who are interested in exploring the fundamentals of yoga poses. The focus of each class will be in developing an understanding of the poses while linking them with breath and awareness.† Breathwork and meditation will also be emphasized.† Students looking for pre-natal yoga will find this class to be helpful in managing their pregnancy and at the same time preparing them for labor and delivery. Bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Class size is limited to 12 students per session so, pre-registration is suggested though drop-ins are welcome. Tuition: $12 drop in per class or $50 for 5 classes Tuesdays, 6:00 - 7:00 pm Location: Discovery Center PHOTOGRAPHS AS A SOURCE FOR PAINTING - Tuesday, November 8 Using photographs as inspiration and as a foundation for painting is a technique used successfully by SCBG featured artist Nancy Perry. Join her to learn how she selects photos, how she uses them, and how they’re transformed in another medium. She will discuss some of the paintings in the current show and lead a hands-on review of her photographs as well as those of participants. Bring photos of your own to discuss, if you like.
