Flow Yoga – Thursdays, Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Tuition: $10 per class Thursdays: 5:45 - 7:15 pm Location: Hayden Conference Center . FLORA, FAUNA and CULTURE OF THE SOUTHEAST: an exhibit by Nancy Barton and Nancy Perry – Sept. through Dec. Be sure to visit the Discovery Center Gallery this fall to see the beautiful exhibit by these two Upstate artists. Nancy Barton uses photography to capture colorful and enticing images of nature, many of which were taken at the S.C. Botanical Garden . Nancy Perry uses a paintbrush with many different mediums to interpret the beauty of nature and landscapes. Workshops will be offered by both artists during the exhibit. Free. Location: Fran Hanson Discovery Center Gallery. Hours: Monday - Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 - 5 p.m. FOUNDATION YOGA - Tuesdays, Sept. 6, 13, 20 & 27 Foundation Yoga class is an excellent class for students who are interested in exploring the fundamentals of yoga poses. The focus of each class will be in developing an understanding of the poses while linking them with breath and awareness. Breathwork and meditation will also be emphasized. Students looking for pre-natal yoga will find this class to be helpful in managing their pregnancy and at the same time preparing them for labor and delivery. Bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Class size is limited to 12 students per session so, pre-registration is suggested though drop-ins are welcome. Tuition: $10 per class Tuesdays, 6 - 7 p.m. Location: Fran Hanson Discovery Center . BEGINNER KNITTING I - Tuesday Evenings: Sept. 6, 13 and 20 Learn a new skill! A beginner class for those who've never held a needle, or those who want to refresh their skills. Students will learn basic knit and purl stitches, as well as how to cast on and bind off. We'll be making a cotton dishcloth (the perfect beginner project) the first week, and working on a scarf for the remainder of the class. Students provide their own needles and yarn - a materials list will be sent out to all registrants. Register early - class size is limited to 10. Students should sign up for either the Tuesday or Wednesday series. Tuition: $30 for series Tuesdays, 6 – 8 p.m. Location: Discovery Center . FALL FOSSIL ADVENTURE FIELD TRIP - Saturday, Sept. 10 Join museum curators for a full day of ancient discovery in Georgia . Try your hand at collecting 40 million year old shark teeth, shells, and other fossils in an old limestone quarry. Children ages 10 - 17 are welcome with a responsible adult. Please pre-register by Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. Call (864) 656-4600 for more information. Fee: $50 per person, includes lunch Saturday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Location: Meet at the Geology Museum . FOCUS ON FOSSILS! - Wednesdays, Sept. 14, 21, 28 and Oct. 5 After school enrichment for 7th - 9th grade students with an interest in life sciences. Participants will learn about life's diversity from the distant past to the present, while giving students the opportunity to study fossil specimens from the museum's collection first hand. Participants will also develop scientific theories, and objectively describe and draw specimens (no artistic ability required). The class will conclude with students creating a fossil replica to take home. All materials will be provided. Space is limited to 8 students -- register early. Tuition: $40 for series (single sessions not available) Wednesdays, 3:30 - 5 p.m. Location: Campbell Geology Museum . FALL CONTAINERS and WINDOW BOXES - Thursday, Sept. 22 Fall and winter containers don’t need to be just pansies and kale. Bring a favorite container or window box with you and create a fresh display for fall and winter in this hands-on program with Lisa Wagner. Perennials, herbs, and small woody shrubs provide an excellent way to perk up a winter porch or entryway. We’ll provide plants and potting mix and some different ideas for fall and winter plantings. Tuition: $35, includes potting media and plants. ($30 for S.C.B.G. members and volunteers) Thursday, 3 - 5 p.m. Location: Nature Learning Center . SKETCHING IN THE GARDEN - Tuesday, Sept. 27 Nature sketching and journaling encourage closer observation and an increased awareness of the natural world. Join S.C. Botanical Garden featured artist Nancy Perry for a morning of sketching in the Garden. She’ll talk about types of sketching and guide participants in using their chosen media to capture natural images of their choice in this hands-on class. Bring a sketch book and drawing materials with you. Tuition: $15 ($12 for S.C.B.G. members and volunteers) Tuesday, 10 a.m. - noon Location: Fran Hanson Discovery Center . PLANT SELECTION FOR THE PIEDMONT - Thursday, Sept. 29 Fall provides ideal growing conditions for plant establishment and growth, with warm soil temperatures and adequate moisture. We’ll talk about selecting plants that will thrive in your landscape, whether it’s sun or shade, and how to choose plants that will suit your needs and gardening style. This program is designed for beginning and intermediate gardeners who’d like to expand their gardening skills. Tuition: $12 includes a behind-the-scenes S.C. Botanical Garden plant sale preview ($10 for SCBG members and volunteers) Thursday, 10 a.m. – noon Location: Nature Learning Center . FALL PLANT SALE - Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1 Peak planting time is upon us. Come out and ask the experts – S.C. Botanical Garden staff and volunteers and members of the Foothills Master Gardeners - will be here to help with plant selection and garden design ideas. Choose from a terrific selection of perennials, trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, native plants, shade plants and more. Friday, Sept. 30: 2:30 – 6 p.m. Friday's sale is our Friends Preview Plant Sale. Friends of the Garden and Geology Museum members get first pick. New Friends may join at the sale with a $25 tax deductible donation. Saturday, Oct. 1: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday's sale is open to the public with free admission. Location: S.C.
