DATE: 4/22/05 CONTACT: Libby Hoyle, (864) 656-5713 WRITER: Diane Palmer, (864) 656-4741 Clemson Extension to offer food safety and sanitation training GREENVILLE – Food safety and sanitation is a top priority for restaurants, hospitals and anyone in the food service industry. Clemson Extension is trying to help keep South Carolinians from getting sick or even dying from unsafe food by offering a ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate training May 10-11 at the Clemson Extension Service office in Greenville County, 301 University Ridge, Suite 4300, Greenville. Cost is $150 which includes course book, training materials, thermometer, leader’s guide to help participants teacher a shorter course to their employees. The class will include: challenges to food safety; developing a HACCP food safety system; the flow of food; maintaining sanitary facilities and equipment; national certification exam; and train-the trainer workshop with employee training materials. This certification course uses material from the educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association (NRA) and is taught by Clemson University faculty who are certified as instructor trainers by NRA.
