Your Day radio schedule for week of Aug. 15

CLEMSON -- The following "Your Day" radio programs from Clemson University Radio Productions are scheduled to air on South Carolina ETV Radio for the week of Aug. 15. The program airs from noon to 1 p.m. , Monday through Thursday. Listeners can call in questions during a "live” show by using the toll-free phone number: 1-888-539-8859.

MONDAY, AUG. 15 –-The dropout rate in South Carolina . Bob Becker, director of the Strom Thurmond Institute on Government and Public Affairs at Clemson University , talks with Harold Long, research coordinator of the Jim Self Center on the Future.

Seeing the pediatric patient as a person. Gary Melton, director of the Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life (IFNL) at Clemson University , talks with IFNL colleague and Nursing Professor Bonnie Holaday and Dr. Francis Rushton of Beaufort Pediatrics.

The Carolina Gold Rice Symposium. Roy Scott learns the history of this heirloom grain from journalist, author, and rice scientist Dr. Tom Hargrove, a guest speaker at the upcoming Carolina Gold Rice Foundation Symposium which takes place in Charleston this week, Aug. 18-20. Hargrove has authored numerous feature articles, scripts, research papers, and books, including A Dragon Lives Forever and War and Rice in Vietnam 's Mekong Delta . Long March to Freedom , which he wrote about his experience of being held captive by rebels in Colombia , was produced as the movie Proof of Life.

How to handle a digital photography habit. Eric Rodgers asks Phil Yanov, executive director of GSA Technology Council and president of Thinkhammer Communications, about solutions to managing and sharing your digital photos. His free software suggestions include Picasa for organization and Flickr for web sharing.

TUESDAY, AUG. 16 –A three-way conversation on gardening. Clemson Extension Horticulturist Bob Polomski hosts garden writer Jim Wilson, former host of PBS Television’s Victory Garden , and Joe Maple, Spartanburg Master Gardener. For additional gardening advice, contact the Clemson Extension Home and Garden Information Center.

Selections from the off-air archives on insects and other household pests. Charlotte Holt hosts Cam Lay, assistant department head for Pesticide Regulation, and Eric Benson, Clemson Extension urban entomologist, in discussions recorded off the air. W EDNESDAY, AUG. 17 – A Fancy Foods Show. Libby Hoyle, Clemson Extension food and nutrition specialist in the Clemson University Department of Packaging Sciences, talks with Jane Jarahian of The Sweetery in Anderson ( 800-752-1188) and with Mary Ridgeway, marketing specialist with the S.C. A visit to the Walhalla Fish Hatchery. Dyana Daniels takes a day trip to the Walhalla Fish Hatchery in Oconee County to learn more from Hatchery Manager Brian Wisner about the importance of the SC Department of Natural Resources Freshwater Fisheries Management program. She also speaks with Mack Watson, state hatcheries coordinator.

THURSDAY, AUG. 18 – Hydrail Technology: Hydrogen and the Railroads. Donna London of the Jim Self Center on the Future, talks with Arnold R. Miller, president of Vehicle Projects LLC, a leading company in the development and demonstration of industrial fuelcell vehicles. Miller, who is also president of the Fuelcell Propulsion Institute, was a participant of Fuel Cell South 2005 .

The Kudzu of the Coast. Peter Kent talks with Betsy Brabson, coordinator of the SC Beach Vitex Task Force in Georgetown , about an imported pest plant that threatens native plants and animals of the S.C. coast.

Stories from the Kytle kitchen . Food writer Sandy Woodward recalls some family food tales first heard in the kitchen.

Developments in Cancer Chemoprevention. Jon Keith talks with Dr. Jose Ordovas, a participant in the Cancer Chemoprevention Symposium held May 17–18 at Clemson University .
