What’s new in agriculture? Bob Becker, director of the Strom Thurmond Institute on Government and Public Affairs at Clemson University , talks with Susan Barefoot, associate dean of Clemson University Food Safety and Nutrition and chief operating officer for the Clemson University Experiment Station.

The South Carolina Association of School Librarians Book Awards: 2005-2006. We get an overview of the SCASL Book Awards program and a look at this year’s list of picture book nominees with Michelle Martin, a specialist in children’s and young adult literature in the Clemson University English Department.

TUESDAY, DEC.6

A live call-in segment ongardening in South Carolina . Charleston County Extension Agent F. Brian Smith takes calls on gardening issues. The Nature of Clemson: A Field Guide to the Natural History of Clemson University. Donna London of the Jim Self Center on the Future talks with two of the five authors of this new book. Lisa Wagner, director of education for the S.C. Botanical Gardens, and Vic Shelburne is a Clemson University professor of Forestry and Natural Resources.

If the Giant Retired and the Beanstalk was Intact . North Carolina writer Maureen Sherbondy reads her short, short story, a winner of the 2005 Piccolo Fiction Open, a literary component of the Piccolo Spoleto Arts Festival and sponsored by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs.

Personalized medicine. Jon Keith talks with Dr. Erminia Guarneri, medical director and co-founder of the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, a center focused on advanced lipid management, prevention and early detection of disease, lifestyle change and alternative therapies.

Bicycling and sustainable communities. Eric Rodgers talks with Citadel Economics Professor Don Sparks, a board member of the League of American Bicyclists and president of Charleston Moves, a non-profit organization that seeks to promote walking, running, cycling, and transit to ensure a healthy community and lifestyles .
