MONDAY, OCTOBER 24

An Update on the Economy. Dr. Bob Becker, Director of the Strom Thurmond Institute on Government and Public Affairs at Clemson University , talks with Dr. Bruce Yandle, a Senior Fellow at the Thurmond Institute and author of the quarterly newsletter, The Economic Situation Report. Dr. Yandle, a Clemson University Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Economics and interim Dean of the College of Business and Behavioral Science, is a past member of the S.C. State Board of Economic Advisors and former Executive Director of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

On the road with The Boy Friend. Charlotte Holt catches up with actress Jessica Grové who plays ingénue Polly Browne in a new production of The Boy Friend now on tour from Goodspeed Musicals. Directed by Julie Andrews, who made her American theatre debut in the role of Polly Browne in 1954, The Boy Friend is a romantic spoof of 1920s musical comedy. It opens Tuesday, October 25 and continues through Sunday, October 30 at the Peace Center in Greenville , SC.

The Seventh Fine Art Annual . Roy Scott learns what’s planned for the Charleston Fine Art Annual that takes place November 4-6, sponsored by the Charleston Fine Art Dealers Association. He speaks with Amy Kisabeth, director of the Margaret Petterson Gallery, Johnson Hagood, owner of Carolina Galleries, Becca Ansert, director of Coleman Fine Art, and Kate Long, an artist represented at the Wells Gallery.

Thomas Meglioranza, baritone. Mickey Harder, director of the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts at Clemson University goes behind the scenes with American baritone Thomas Meglioranza following his September 2005 performance at the Brooks Center, presented by the Utsey Chamber Series Endowment.

An hour of live conversation on gardening in South Carolina . Throughout the noon hour, Clemson Extension Horticulturist Bob Polomski and his guest, Patrick McMillan will take listener questions on lawn and garden topics. McMillan, the curator of the Clemson University Herbarium, is a professional field biologist who specializes in plant community ecology and monocot taxonomy. As SC ETV conducts special programming October 23 – 29 for Domestic Violence Awareness Week, in partnership with the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA), Your Day presents a live hour on the topic of domestic violence from the ETV studios in Spartanburg.

Our aging population: how do we prepare for the future? Jon Keith hosts an hour-long call-in program on the issues of aging. His guests include Dr. Victor Hirth, Medical Director of Geriatric Services for Palmetto Richland and the Division of Geriatrics at the USC School of Medicine; Denise Heimlich, Director of Senior Wellness Service at the S.C. Episcopal Home; and Leland Humphrey, resident of a retirement community. We invite our listeners to call in with questions and suggestions on topics such as making decisions for aging parents, signs and symptoms of dementia, selecting a place to live in your senior years, and the importance of wellness and exercise in prolonging good health.
