Dan Hitchcock’s primary duties will be water quality research with a focus on coastal development. Through Extension programs he will educate communities on environmental quality issues. He is assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. “We are delighted to have Dan join the Baruch team,” said George Askew, director for the facility. “He will be an excellent addition for us as we seek to identify ways to balance economic growth with our environment.” Prior to joining Baruch, Hitchcock was coastal environmental quality specialist for the S.C. Sea Grant Extension Program. He was born in White Plains, N.Y. and grew up in Hendersonville, Tenn. He and his wife Angela live in Mt. Pleasant. He earned a B.S. degree in zoology with a minor in botany from the University of Tennessee in 1993, and an M.S. in environmental health from the University of Georgia in 1996. He received his Ph.D. in biological and agricultural engineering from Georgia in 2001. Hitchcock is an adjunct faculty member of the Masters of Environmental Studies program at the College of Charleston and an affiliate member of the faculty of engineering at the University of Georgia. He is a charter member of the American Ecological Engineering Society and a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, the Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals, and the Society of Wetland Scientists.
