DATE: 8/9/06 CONTACT: Marian Robinson, 864-226-1581; mchpmn@clemson.edu WRITER: Diane Palmer, 864-656-4741; spalmer@clemson.edu Clemson Extension to train volunteers in cancer public policy, advocacy ANDERSON – Clemson Extension and The American Cancer Society are inviting anyone who is concerned about public policy, advocacy and cancer in Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties as well as the Upstate area to four free training sessions beginning Aug. 17. The training is designed to develop a core network of volunteers whose work centers on breast health promotion and cancer advocacy. The volunteers participating in the project will become a part of the cancer advocates in the Tri-County Community Action Teams and the American Cancer Society Action Network. The first training will be Aug. 17 at the Clemson Extension Service office at 313 South Towers Street in Anderson. It will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. with lunch included. The other trainings are tentatively scheduled for Oct. 19 or 21, Dec. 14 or 16 and Feb. 15 or 17. At the first session participants will receive a prepared training package and a preview of what the project entails. “Participants will have a voice when it comes to issues that concern them,” said Marian Robinson, Clemson Extension community health specialist and project coordinator.
