A Cotton Insect Scouting School will be offered at the Edisto research and Education Center at Blackville June 5 and the following day at the Pee Dee REC near Florence. “The school is free and lunch will be served,” said Jeremy Greene, Clemson University cotton entomologist. “Farmers, consultants and anyone else who might be scouting cotton will find the schools helpful, either beginners or experienced scouts who need a refresher,” Consultants and speakers from Clemson University will cover subjects such as cotton growth and development, weed identification, identification of beneficial insects, and recognizing and scouting for insect pests. Pesticide usage and safety issues will also be covered, as will a cotton scout’s responsibilities. Programs begin each day with registration at 8:30 a.m. and conclude around 3:30 p.m. END
