The third annual Pastor’s Healthcare Summit: “Bridging the Cultural Divide,” a Focus on Youth Ministry, is scheduled for June 9-10 at Welfare Baptist Church in Belton. The event will begin at 4 p.m. on June 9 and conclude at 2 p.m. on June 10. The event is free. “Many youths in our community are leading healthy, happy and productive lives. However, some face challenges and temptations that can have a long lasting negative effect,” said Marian Robinson, Clemson Extension community health specialist.” “This collaborative effort seeks to foster communication and networking for the benefit of the community and our youth.” Terrance Roberts, new Anderson mayor-elect, will introduce the former mayor of Philadelphia, Wilson Goode, who will be keynote speaker. Young people face decisions such as financial planning, premarital sex and its consequences, unconstructive relationships and substance abuse. The summit will highlight the institutions of family, church and school as major influences in a young person’s life. Pastors and other clergy, parents, teachers, and community leaders are invited to attend as well as anyone who has an interest. Participants are asked to RSVP for dinner by June 6.
