Deadline nears to enter S.C. Junior Beef Roundup

CLEMSON – The deadline is nearing for South Carolina 4-H’ers and FFA members to enter the 20 th Annual South Carolina Junior Beef Round Up.

Entries will be accepted until June 16 for the event, to be held July 29-30 at the T. Ed Garrison Arena at Clemson University, according to John Irwin, Clemson Extension animal scientist.

“This is the largest junior beef cattle show in South Carolina,” he said. “It is more than just a cattle show, however.”

Junior exhibitors competing in the contest test their beef knowledge by competing in showmanship and scholarship competition. Competitors are required to write an essay on a current beef production topic.

“The junior cattlemen will also compete in a sales talk contest which requires both knowledge of beef and public speaking skills,” said Irwin.

The S.C. Junior Beef Round Up is open to all 4-H’ers and FFA members from across South Carolina and the Southeast. Event sponsors include County Cattlemen’s Associations, the South Carolina Cattlemen’s Association, the S.C. Beef Board and supporters from agribusiness.

Anyone wanting entry information should contact Irwin at 864-984-2514, ext. 117; or Larry Olson at 893-284-3343, ext. 231.
