MONDAY, AUGUST 21

Sea of Gray .Bob Becker, director of the Strom Thurmond Institute on Government and Public Affairs at Clemson University , talks with Tom Chaffin, author of Sea of Gray: The Around-the-World Odyssey of the Confederate Raider Shenandoah .

Physical fitness award nominations. Jay Daniels, executive director of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, calls for nominations for outstanding leaders in the field of physical activity. The 2006 awards ceremony takes place at halftime during the Auburn-USC football game in Columbia on Thursday, Sept. 28. Nominations are due Sept. 8. Visit the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness for the nomination forms.

Brimming Tides: Paintings and Drawings by Brian Rutenberg . Glenn Hare visits an exhibit of the works of Brian Rutenberg currently on display at the SC State Museum in Columbia through Sept. 4. Artist and South Carolina native Brian Rutenberg will discuss his paintings featured in the exhibition Brimming Tides: Paintings and Drawings by Brian Rutenberg on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Museum Auditorium.

Passing the torch. We learn the history of the annual Spitoono Festival in Clemson as the founders of this charity event turn over leadership of the RPAA, the Redneck Performing Arts Association, to new leadership. The 26 th annual charity festival takes place on Aug. 24-26 at the National Guard Armory.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 22
A live call-in segment on gardening in South Carolina . A city commits to renewable energy. Donna London, director of the Jim Self Center on the Future, talks with Mike Petrie, maintenance director for the City of Union, about the city’s effort to encourage renewable energy and reduce dependence upon foreign oil with a new bio-diesel initiative.

Columbia Rock Academy. We learn about Columbia ’s first music school dedicated to the study of rock music, the Columbia Rock Academy , from Director and Founder Marty Fort. The next rock recital takes place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at Jillian’s in Columbia .

New Carolina: the SC Council on Competitiveness. Jon Keith talks with the chairman of the SC Council on Competitiveness Ed Sellers, CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina.

Changes in Internet Explorer. Eric Rodgers discusses the upcoming release from Microsoft with Phil Yanov, director of Business Development at Acentron Technologies, and founder and executive director of the GSA Technology Council.

Poogan’s Peanut Butter Pie. Libby Hoyle, Clemson Extension food and nutrition specialist in the Clemson University Department of Packaging Science, talks with pastry chef Nicole Anhalt at Poogan’s Porch located at 72 Queen Street in Charleston.
