Clemson plans first annual 4-H Natural Resources Field Day

CLEMSON – The first annual 4-H Natural Resources Field Day is planned for Oct. 13 from noon to 3 p.m. at Bowie Outdoor Education Center in Iva. The event is free and open to everyone.

The purpose of the event is to provide families with a safe environment in which to learn more about the natural resource opportunities and activities available in their community and across the state.

The program includes: dog retrieving demonstrations; fishing challenges; compass and pacing activities; nature trail exploring; camouflage games; shooting practice stations; and hunting ethics adventures. All programs will be hands on and will allow each person to actively participate in the fun and action.

“Bring the entire family for some educational fun,” said Rick Willey, state 4-H natural resources specialist at Clemson University. “This event is part of the National 4-H Week activities and is a kick-off event to the South Carolina 4-H Centennial Celebration.”

Directions to the site: Take Hwy. 81 south from Anderson. Continue through Starr. Turn right onto Parker Bowie Road. Continue straight at the four-way stop sign. Go approximately 1.5 miles. Turn left onto Cemetery Road. Pass one road on the right then turn at the first driveway to center.

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. The South Carolina 4-H Youth Development Program uses a learn-by doing approached, the involvement of caring adults, and the knowledge and resources of Clemson University and the land grant university systems to empower youth to become healthy, productive and contributing members of society.
